I didn't get through all the game yet, just beat Hellrealm with Ellen and am going to do it with Keats next, but I have a question... Do we ever find out what kind of illness Herve has? So far, the facts I have are as follows - Dr. Lester says that it's a "difficult illness"
- On the picture of the medical records looks like a drawing of the lungs
- It isn't a blood disease
I'm wondering because I had an idea for a fanfic once I finish the game and would like a bit more background info, if it exists. Anyway, it's late and Hellrealm awaits!

Y'know, now that you mention it, I don't think they did ever give it a name. Whatever it was, they apparently didn't have the means with which to treat it, if there even was a way to begin with. It's kind of weird, because in most of the flashbacks with Herve in them, he never actually looks to be all that sick, but maybe they just didn't show it on purpose.
S'far as I'm concerned you could basically make a case for it being just about anything. Those three facts you came up with seem like a pretty good starting point.

Yeah, he kind of looks like he's wearing a kilt. Or a school uniform, which is weird, since they never seemed to go to school... or even have a school.

Yeah, speaking of which, the little booklet that comes with the game says that Ellen's a college student, but I want to know what her concentration is! Not important to the game at all, but it'd make for something to get into in post-game fanfiction...
But you're right, there's no real mention of school, either. The village seems to be pretty isolated; they might've been homeschooled...

Ellen is probably an art major, as Cecilia she was always drawing pictures.
No wonder everyone in the village is messed up! The one person with a job outside of Doolin is kind of crazy.

Yeah, I figured it'd either be art in general, or possibly photography. Maybe it's just because her main real-world outfit strikes me as something a photographer might wear (don't ask me why that's the image I've got in my head; even I don't know, haha). Like, I can definitely see her in those clothes with a camera hanging from her neck. [/random]
Besides, if it's photography, it gives me an excuse to make her bug Keats. XP
If you're referring to the crazy person I think you are, I'd really like to know why nobody insisted upon bringing that person to justice. Their actions seemed just a liiiiiiiiittle bit extreme to me. *trying not to spoil anything for you*

Don't worry, I already spoiled it for myself... but that doesn't mean that I don't want to see it happen in-game It just seems that first off, nobody watches their kids... 17 years ago and now... the bartender's kid (or is it niece?) is in that one house by herself and tells you her guardian drinks a lot... And Suzette... well... when you think about how murder is usually treated in that town, I guess you can let another killer just walk away... blame her crazy mother. It reminds me of a quote from Futurama "Murder isn't working and that's all we're good at." Doolin doesn't seem like a nice place to live...

Spoilertastic, for the record:
Yeah, tell me about it. Cecelia disappears into the Henge to pray all the time and her ridiculously overprotective mother... does nothing. And then kills a bunch of people "to protect Cecelia". My thoughts: buwuh? And then Ellen just forgives her. Because she was "such a good mother". Um... She abandoned you, dear. And murdered people. And... yeah, no. *headdesk*
And word on the bit about Charlotte (she's the pub owner's niece). She goes frolicking about the land of the dead with Gam and Gee and nobody notices she's not safe in bed? Um, what?
Don't even get me started on Suzette... lol.
I would not like to live there. XD At least not the video game version; I'm sure it's a perfectly nice town IRL. I hope.

Another thing I noticed in my obsession... I mean... thinking about this game... Herve is the French form of Harvey... and Suzette is also a French name. I'm thinking either Renaldo or Regine (Regina?) is/was French.
It would make sense if they moved to another country ti get help with Herve's illness... but it doesn't make sense to move to a town that didn't even have a hospital. Hmm... all this fodder is left for fanfiction then... guess I'd better start writing.

Wow; hadn't thought of all that. That's a very good observation! I would love to see how you work with that...
If the disease has to do with Herve's lungs as the medical records suggest, maybe they moved to Doolin as one of those off-in-the-countryside-where-there's-less-pollution kind of deals? It's a little old-fashioned, but it's possible...
Gah, now you've got me thinking about it, too! Obsession is fun. :D

OH yeah, might start making some notes on a story now. Haven't played the game in a few days due to work and probably won't get to the PS3 for a few more days 'cause the boyfriend is getting Madden *sigh*... hopefully I can finish the game over the weekend.

I'll be posting my fic very soon. It's completed; I just have to fix two small continuity errors. It's an 18 page beast of a one-shot. >.>
Oh, work. I'd get this thing done a lot faster if it wasn't for my job taking up 9 hours of my day every day...
I hope you get to finish it! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the ending. :)

Still didn't get to finish Folklore yet... my online RPG (as in online table top game Vampire: the Masquerade) got a bit out of hand and needed to be sorted through... and yes... there is Madden in the house *sigh* stupid Madden... I need to get Keats up that stupid elevator in Hellrealm!
But I did start laying down some plot for a Herve/Cecilia fic... and maybe have it carry into Keats/Ellen... but maybe that's a bit much for a person that still needs to finish the game. *grr... stupid elevator*
Anyway, I did send a message to ff.net... no response.. but I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Well, then...
# Dr. Lester says that it's a "difficult illness" # On the picture of the medical records looks like a drawing of the lungs # It isn't a blood disease
Blood and lungs are closely related, however. When the heart beats, blood is sent through the body while simultaneously being sent to the lungs and back to the heart. This is so that the blood can pick up oxygen on the first beat and then can be sent through the body for the cells to absorb the oxygen.
So if the disease has nothing to do with the blood, then it has to do directly with the lungs. My teacher told me that food can get into your lungs and infect them. Maybe that happened, or maybe he had lung cancer. Something like that, maybe?

I figure it wasn't a blood disease due to the fact that he could donate blood to Ellen and she didn't end up with the same disease. I've been doing some research for a different project... Herve may have had something like cystic fibrosis... which is where the body makes a thick mucus and it gets stuck in the lungs and can get infected... but again, it's all speculation.
The only reason that I don't think it was a form of cancer is that Herve never really seemed to be ill. And well, he had all that scruffy hair as well. But I don't claim to be any sort of medical person.
